Here is my Flickr slideshow. The theme is LOVE. There are so many types of love (spouse, partner, teenage, parent/child, sibling, friend, love as it ages, patriotism, pets, etc.). Then there is the darker side of love, too (abuse, loneliness, anger, death, arguments, alienation, etc.). Society likes to focus on the happier side of it, so I thought I would contrast it with the less appealing images.

I found finding images more challenging than I thought and it required me to rethink along the lines of a "key word" search. I know my students would also struggle with this. Another frustration I had was not being to reorder the images once they landed in my favorites. The slideshow would be more powerful if I could control where the images fit in. I suppose I could use iMovie for that?

Voicethread was SO easy to use. I suppose I could also import my Flickr images here and arrange them that way. Students could also use it to annotate via typing or audio specific information regarding their topic of research. I wish one feature of voicethread could be to break audio files away. For example, if you clicked save on a voicethread, but then got distracted by your dogs/kids/husband, and went back to finish your project and forgot you already did the audio, but rerecorded, you can’t take that off. I just left it there. ;-) So you get to hear 2 versions of the same slide on the last one. Have fun with that.

  1. Dixie,

I so agree with you on using Flickr. I really wanted to control the order of the pictures. I thought that there would be a greater impact in how I would have ordered them, but at the same time I thought that mine ended on a great picture - thank you luck!

I (for a lack of a better term) loved your slideshow. The pictures you found were beautiful. Although, it was really hard looking at the examples of negative love - as I am sure was your point.

I was not able to view your VoiceThread. It says I need to contact you to get permission. I forget where it is, but you have to make it public in order for me to watch it - or invite me by putting in my email address.

  2. The nice thing about my not being able to use Flickr was that, in Picasa, I could control the order of the pictures. Because I was trying to tell some sort of sequential story (the type of project I would use for my students at the beginning of a term), it was very important to me that the pictures appear in a specific order.

Thank you for sharing this slideshow. I also really enjoyed it.
